In this Wix vs Shopify comparison , I walk through both platforms to see which is the best option for hosting your online business!

I’ve compiled 3 rounds of tests for each product, so get comfy and get ready to find your solution! Also, feel free to leave your thoughts on both products in the comment section.

Round 1: Design and customization

When it comes to building a successful ecommerce store in 2021, mobile optimization has become increasingly important. In my experience, 70–80% of traffic comes from mobile, but websites are typically designed in desktop, so it’s important to remain aware of how your audience perceives your store. Both platforms are mobile responsive, and allow you to view the page from a mobile perspective in the editor.

However, when it comes to customization, Wix takes the cake. Wix offers 108 ecommerce template, which is just a portion of its total templates, and on top of that they are all free.

On the other hand, Shopify offers 73 themes, with only a handful of them being free. If your looking for a high quality, paid theme, Shopify is the way to go, but if your starting out and want lots of options, Wix will be your best bet!

Round 2: Ease of use

Shopify is dedicated specifically to ecommerce, so the platform provides more tools directed at online business functions, rather than offering devices for all websites like Wix.

However, Wix features a drag and drop layout, which is significantly easier for beginners to create attractive websites. Ultimately, the winner of this round is decided by whether you’d have stronger software for ecommerce (Shopify) or web design (Wix).

Round 3: Pricing & value

Both platforms are within the same general budget, but Wix offers a completely free plan. However, this plan doesn’t offer as many features as Shopify’s 14-day free trial.

Wix’s pricing plan are significantly better for a budget, and are as follows:

  • Business Basic: $20/month
  • Business Unlimited: $25/month
  • Business VIP: $35/month

Shopify also offers three plans:

  • Basic Shopify: $29/month
  • Shopify: $79/month
  • Advanced Shopify: $299/month

Lastly, Wix offers a free domain with it’s paid plans, while Shopify does not, adding a small addition cost. On top of this, Shopify charges a small transaction fee of 2.9% + 30¢. In the end, Wix is the winner of this round, with not only significantly cheaper plans, but less additional costs.

Shopify or Wix? Conclusion

Shopify is the world’s leading e-commerce hosting platform, making it appealing at first glance, but as we dig deeper, we can conclude that Wix offers a largely more cost effective solution.

So, if your looking to invest a lot in your business in order to receive the luxuries of Shopify, then that will be ideal for your business. But, if your looking for a cheap way to get your products out into the world, Wix is the way to go!
